Roulette Playing Guide: Betting Areas, Probabilities, and Table Selection

Roulette bets are divided into inside and outside bets. Inside bets include single numbers, splits (two numbers), streets (three numbers), corners (four numbers), and six-line bets. These offer higher payouts but lower probabilities of winning. Outside bets include red/black, odd/even, high/low, dozens, and columns. These have higher probabilities of winning but lower payouts.

Differences Between European and American Roulette

European roulette has numbers 0 to 36, totaling 37 pockets; American roulette adds an extra 00, totaling 38 pockets. With the same payout odds, the additional 00 increases the house edge, so generally, European single-zero tables are more favorable to players. If the table offers La Partage or En Prison rules, certain outside bets may return half or be held for the next spin when 0 comes up, potentially providing better conditions.

Proper Understanding of Betting Systems

Betting systems like Martingale or Fibonacci only change the bet amount per round; they cannot change the probability of the ball landing on any number. Table limits and limited funds can make consecutive increases ineffective quickly.

It is recommended to first confirm the roulette version and the minimum and maximum bets, then keep each round's stake to a small portion of your total budget. Outside bets can reduce short-term fluctuations, while inside bets have higher volatility; neither eliminates the house edge. Setting a time limit and a loss limit is more important than chasing so-called hot or cold numbers.
